About the event

This workshop offers SMEs the opportunity to learn first-hand about real life innovation challenges faced by large companies involved in developing and implementing informatics in the healthcare sector. IBM, Hitachi and Philips Healthcare will be discussing their challenges with the aim of forming partnerships with SMEs and university specialists with the creativity and expertise to solve them.

This is your chance to identify how your business can get involved, discuss possible solutions and contribute to delivering end products or services in a confidential environment. This workshop is the only Greater Manchester forum to offer access to collaboration partnerships, where you can meet like-minded potential customers or suppliers. Participating SMEs will be screened before being accepted to attend based on their business focus, challenges and capabilities.

About the programme
This workshop is part of the Innovate Manchester events programme run by the Business Growth Hub and MIDAS as part of the Business Growth Hub Innovation Service. The workshops aim to bring Manchester’s SMEs, large companies and universities together to address research and development opportunities, with commercial potential.

The Innovate Manchester events are part of a wider range of European Regional Development Fund initiatives, aimed at helping companies to access Manchester’s science assets and to overcome barriers that might be holding back innovation. The events themselves seek to provide a forum for Manchester’s large companies, SMEs and universities to share knowledge, and collaborate around shared problems and business opportunities.

The UK is renowned for its strengths in science and innovation, particularly when it comes to the creation and application of new ideas. Greater Manchester has played a pivotal role in putting British innovation firmly on the map. From the industrial to the advanced materials revolution, the region continues to redefine how business is done, and innovation is at the core of its DNA.

Despite this, Manchester underperforms when it comes to commercialising discoveries made in the research base or when it comes to its’ SMEs introducing product or process innovations.

These workshops have been created to make it simpler for local companies to identify and benefit from collaboration with the city’s world-class science and technology base, and commercialise innovation, with the advice and support available.
