Innovation & Technology
3rd Floor, Broadstone Mill
The Stockport Business and Innovation Centre (SBIC) is located on the third floor of Broadstone Mill, an iconic former cotton spinning mill in Stockport with excellent links in to Manchester and beyond. The mill closed in 1957 and one of the buildings was demolished before converting the remaining building in to commercial and retail units, which still display many of the original features, such as exposed brickwork and vaulted ceilings. Today, the building is used for a range of creative business purposes and innovative and creative businesses are benefiting from the supportive and community-focused environment within the Business and Innovation Centre. The office accommodation offers individual units of varying layouts and sizes, suitable for all business needs from start-ups to companies with a requirement for up to 50 workstations. With a range of fully serviced meeting and conference rooms, SBIC is the perfect business environment.
The Stockport Business and Innovation Centre (formerly the Stockport Business Incubator) is supported by Stockport MBC, part financed by the European Regional Development Fund Programme 2007 to 2013 and managed by Oxford Innovation. SBIC is designed to bridge the gap for young businesses as they make the transition from fledgling companies to larger employers, with affordable rates and access to business support to provide guidance and advice as and when required. For those businesses not yet ready for dedicated office space, SBIC offers both shared space and virtual solutions.
In order to support businesses to focus on those incremental improvements that hit the bottom line, we can help with vision, strategy and effective implementation. Whether driving growth or managing project development or ad hoc issues, our business support service can provide you with the advice and tools to help - a core feature of the Stockport Business and Innovation Centre. A dedicated ‘Business Incubator’ is also provided to offer specialist support to ‘start-up’ companies requiring intensive support and coaching to get their business off the ground.
As part of the supportive environment within the centre, we encourage networking amongst our tenants, with regular business events, a range of training and learning events, workshops and seminars being available covering relevant business topics to provide that additional growth support.
THE ENGINE HOUSE BUSINESS LOUNGE
Located at the heart of the centre, the Engine House is an informal breakout space for meetings, thinking, networking events or a place to touch down when on the road. Available to customers of the centre and on a membership basis for external companies, free wifi and refreshments are on offer to all.
