Innovation funding closing in September has a focus on healthcare innovation, with SBRI focussing on urgent/emergency care and stroke. Support from the Royal academy of Engineering and The Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Catalyst also closes.


As we move into October. There is the opportunity to apply for the next round of Innovate UK Smart Grants, as well as a focus on international collaboration for manufacturing of therapeutics and disaster resilience.

 

Closing September

  • IBIC Funding Calls 

The Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Catalyst (IBIC) is a £5 million EPSRC place-based initiative that brings together north-west England's industrial biotechnology community to accelerate knowledge exchange, skills development, and innovation. It will galvanise links between the region's science, research, innovation, and teaching sectors to create real-world impact.

  • Urgent and Emergency Care – SBRI Healthcare

Competition 26 - Urgent & Emergency Care, Phase 3, aims to identify innovations at an advanced stage of development that address three priority areas:

o   Health and Care outside of Hospitals: Accessing the Right Care and Reducing Demand

o   Reducing Length of Stay and Improving Discharge

o   Supporting Workforce.

  • Stroke – SBRI Healthcare

Under this Phase 3 Funding Competition, three challenges have been identified via consultation with clinicians and other stakeholders.

o   Early diagnosis

o   Rehabilitation

o   Life after stroke.

Emphasis should be placed on how the technology/innovation will address any challenges associated with health inequalities, such as demographic and geographic disparities.

  • European Space Agency: Cultural Change for Green Transition

Funding for teams to develop services related to applications that trigger cultural change, by raising climate change awareness and providing mitigating actions.

  • Royal Academy of Engineering Regional Talent Engines

A six-month pre-accelerator programme for early-stage founders in Northern England, Northern Ireland and Wales to transform great ideas into new engineering startups. Award value: £20,000

  • Space for the Sports Car Sector - Efficiency, Safety and Sustainability

European Space Agency funding for teams who would like to develop sustainable space-based services and applications that address challenges related to the sports car sector.

  • Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation 2025

The Africa Prize supports ambitious entrepreneurs and innovators developing local and scalable solutions to everyday challenges on the continent. The winner of the Africa Prize receives £25,000 and three runners-up are each awarded £10,000.
