Support from GM Business Growth Hub has enabled an Oldham-based company to increase its potential daily output by more than 35-fold.

●      3,400% rise in capacity

●      20% Y1 growth forecast

●      3.5 new jobs created

For Pegasus Warehousing and Fulfilment, standing still wasn’t an option. With a growing national and international client base, the company had ambitions to move beyond traditional warehousing and expand its fulfilment offering. But to do that, it needed to completely transform how it operated.

Having identified an opportunity to increase its market share by implementing a bespoke warehouse management system that adopts the latest advancements in AI, machine learning and big data analytics, Managing Director Andy Taylor and his team turned to GM Business Growth Hub’s Innovation Service for support.

What followed was a smart investment in technology that has delivered faster and more accurate fulfilment, happier customers, and a set-up that can grow with the business. "The revenue and capital funding and wider help we received enabled us to quickly get a bespoke, innovative product designed and built,” says Andy. “This is enabling us to remain competitive and grow our markets.”

A unique solution

At the heart of the transformation was a new, cloud-based Warehouse Management System, designed specifically to meet Pegasus’s needs. The project kicked off in July 2024 and was delivered in collaboration with a Greater Manchester-based specialist software developer, working closely with the Pegasus team to ensure the system was fully tailored to the business’s operations.

The bespoke system handles everything from automated stock replenishment and warehouse mapping to detailed inventory reports. It uses advanced AI algorithms to predict customer demand, optimise stock levels and spot potential supply chain issues before they happen.

It also connects directly to online stores, as well as in-store checkout systems and courier services. That means when a consumer places an order online, the details flow straight into Pegasus’s system; the team sees the order instantly, picks and packs the product, and ships it from their warehouse – sending tracking information back to the retailer or courier automatically. There are fewer errors, lower transport miles and reduced carbon emissions.

Capacity increased by 3,400%

The tech leap – along with investment in mobile scanning devices, warehouse racking and trolleys made possible by capital revenue Innovation Navigator funding – means Pegasus can now process up to 2,500 orders per day. That’s up from just 70 previously, an increase of more than 3,400% and a step change that wouldn’t have been possible with off-the-shelf or manual systems.

The impact of the investment was quickly felt. By mid-2025, Pegasus had created the equivalent of three and a half full-time jobs, opened a new 32,000 sq ft warehouse just outside Rochdale – “an amazing facility which allows us to provide five new loading docks, ramp access, and racking for approximately 4,600 pallets,” says Andy – and was forecasting 20% growth in year one of the new system.

Several existing clients have already signed up to use the new fulfilment service, and the company is now actively targeting new markets it previously couldn’t reach. With warehouses no longer just for storage, but hubs of fast, efficient delivery, Pegasus is now able to compete more effectively in the fast-evolving third-party logistics (3PL) market.

This success was recognised when Pegasus was featured in the GM Rising Stars of Business 2025, which celebrates the region's most dynamic and forward-thinking companies, highlighting those driving innovation and using technology to power their growth.

An innovation ecosystem that drives progress

While the tech is impressive, Pegasus's success wouldn’t have happened without the right guidance and support – and the wider Greater Manchester innovation ecosystem is continuing to help Pegasus plan for the future. In phase two of the project, the company is working with Manchester Metropolitan University to analyse and optimise workflows using simulation modelling and value stream mapping. It’s a deeper dive into the data to keep improving efficiency, backed by academic expertise.
