Stephensons Solicitors LLP is an award-winning law firm serving clients nationwide, dedicated to making legal services more accessible and inclusive for individuals and businesses. With a strong focus on community engagement and innovation, Stephensons works to break down barriers to justice and deliver tailored, practical legal solutions.

As part of its commitment to social responsibility, Stephensons were looking to strengthen their approach to Social Value and formalise the great work they were already doing.

At Stephensons, we have always believed in the power of community and the importance of supporting those we serve, along with our wider stakeholders. By measuring social value in terms of impact and outcomes, we can truly see the difference we are making.

The training provided by the Growth Hub gave us clear guidance and a framework to work within, as well as the invaluable opportunity to connect with like-minded businesses who share our commitment to positive change.

Sarah Boustouller, Marketing Director and Partner at Stephenson

Stephensons were introduced to GM Business Growth Hub’s services over 10 years ago and were one of the original partner organisations. The Hub invited key team members to two fully funded half-day training sessions on social value. With the support of GM Business Growth Hub, Stephensons was able to take a structured and strategic approach to embedding social value across the organisation.

The firm began by clearly defining its pillars of social value, identifying the core themes and priorities that align with its mission and community impact goals. Building on this foundation, Stephensons developed a comprehensive social value policy and strategy, ensuring that its commitments were not only aspirational but also actionable and measurable.

“It’s incredible to see businesses like Stephensons take their social value responsibility seriously. As an organisation, they use all their resources to make a difference to their own colleagues, but also the wider community,

“We’re here to help channel that enthusiasm into measurable impact. Something which Stephensons are having no problem showing” - Paul Vicario, Social Value Specialist at GM Business Growth Hub

The Hub provided practical guidance on implementing robust measurement processes, including the creation of a social value measurement grid to track progress and outcomes effectively. To ensure alignment with national standards and best practices, Stephensons adopted the Themes, Outcomes and Measures (TOMs) framework, allowing them to accurately measure their contributions and demonstrate meaningful social, economic, and environmental impacts.

As a result, Stephensons has established a Social Value Forum and internal collaboration channels to coordinate quarterly initiatives. The firm tracks measurable outcomes, conducts quarterly staff surveys, and they have recently published an annual Social Value Report alongside its Carbon Reduction Plan and ESG statement.

This collaboration with GM Business Growth Hub has empowered Stephensons to further embed social value deeply into its operations, ensuring lasting impact for clients, communities, and the environment.
